NYC SNAP Users to Get 40% More for Fresh Produce at Local Markets

New York City Mayor Zohran Kwame Mamdani announced an expansion to the Health Bucks program, which provides financial incentives for SNAP beneficiaries to purchase fresh fruits and vegetables. Starting in January 2027, the program will increase its matching benefit to 40% for every $2 spent on produce at participating farmers markets and farm stands.

HNH Insight

This initiative represents a significant municipal-level investment in nutrition incentive programs, aiming to lower the cost barrier for healthy food access among SNAP recipients by leveraging local market infrastructure.
