CMS Approves Maine’s Waiver to Expand Whole Person Care

The Centers for Medicare & Medicaid Services has approved a five-year renewal of Maine's Section 1115 demonstration waiver, which includes new authority to provide nutrition supports. The initiative incorporates "Food is Medicine" services, such as medically tailored meals and fruit and vegetable prescriptions, to improve health outcomes for eligible Medicaid enrollees.

HNH Insight

This waiver demonstrates the growing trend of states utilizing Section 1115 authority to address health-related social needs by integrating nutrition services directly into Medicaid benefit packages.
